Ugly Bottles

Freddy Kruger bottles
Ugly, Scratched, Cracked, Chipped

First of all, I call ugly bottles, Freddy Kruger bottles.
If you are a serious collector, in my opinion, you should not
settle for an ugly scratched up bottle just so that you can claim
you have one and check it off your list.  We all have Freddy Kruger
bottles in our collection, but they should be temporary if anything.
I typically hide my few away and do not display most of them.  I'm
always looking for a bottle to upgrade a damaged bottle in my collection.
A quality bottle collection is made up of quality bottles, not scratched, dirty,
ugly bottles that look like Freddy's face.  If you put 99 mint bottles on a shelf
with one damaged bottle next to them, I guarantee you that the only bottle people
will notice is the ugly one.  Strive for quality.  Make sure that if you have an ugly
Franken-bottle or Freddy Kruger in the collection that you didn't spend much for it
and you don't plan on keeping it for a long time.  A quality bottle collection should
look pretty, clean, and not look like a hodge-podge of Freddy Kruger bottles
and Franken-bottles that came out of a trash dump..  Strive for excellence.

And, last of all, CONDITION affects price.  A scuffed up bottle can be worth
90% less than a mint condition bottle.  Damaged bottles, even dirty bottles
that need tumbling are worth far less than nice clean bottles.  It's hard to pay
much for a dirty bottle because after it's been tumbled, if it has any flaws they will
really show up like a sore thumb.  Therefore, I am always reluctant to pay
much for a dirty bottle, even a cloudy bottle, because you never can see all
of the scuffs and scratches until it's been professionally cleaned in a tumbler.
A pretty, undamaged, clean bottle is always worth a lot more than one that's not.
